""Guinness World Record Attempt
The challenge is out there, and Riverside, IA deserves the honor. The current record for "Largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters" is 99. There has also been word that an event in Germany had a little over 500 people attend their attempt at breaking the record but that statistic has yet to be confirmed by the GBWR organization. So here is the challenge: At the Trekfest event we are going to make our own attempt to break that record. We are shooting for at least 1,000 people dressed in Star Trek costumes to participate is this outstanding event. We will be making the attempt right after the parade on Saturday. If you love Star Trek and you want to be apart of the momentous event, please join us. You have to be in full costume to count. Help Trekfest & Riverside get this record that we so richly deserve. It only seems right that the future birthplace of our illustrious Captain James T. Kirk also be the home of this record breaking event. Gee....think I’ll hold out for the group scab-picking.
I want to be apart. Far apart.

I live near there. I have never seen the stone marker shown in the picture.
I think it is photo shopped.
Trekkers wouldn’t use illusion like that, would they?
yes. Just South of Iowa City.
My old stomping grounds...
Took the whole family there; it was hot, but very well done and a whole less geeky than one might suspect. I was concerned with Walter Koenig - he looked very thin and frail - I was right up by the stage during the costume judging - but still had his actor’s voice (not accented) on those couple of times when he wanted to make himself heard.
Well done, Riverside.
