John Terry has apologised to Fabio Capello and his team-mates for his stunning public outburst which undermined the England manager.

- "I went into yesterday's press conference with the intention of being honest,'' Terry said. "I was asked a question about Joe Cole and maybe I went too far. But it was never my intention to upset the manager or the players and if I did upset anyone, I apologise. I have told the manager he has my total support and I would like to stress that I don't believe I have been a disruptive influence in the camp.

"I would now like to put this episode behind me and concentrate on trying to win what is a massive game for England. All I was trying to do was to say how important it is to me to try to win the World Cup. I just hope people at least appreciate that I have taken the time to call you and have asked you to report what I have to say in response.''

In his press conference, Terry had openly challenged Capello, saying: "If it upsets him then I'm on the verge of just saying, 'So what, I'm here to win it for England'.''

This sounds like one of those fake apologies, where JT is only sorry he could not get a proper mutiny started and have Capello walk the plank.

England on verge of shock group elimination for 1st time in 50 years
England's World Cup woes usually revolve around the pressure of knowing it hasn't won the global title since 1966.

With England to play Slovenia in a Group C match on Wednesday at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, a more telling fact is that it's been 50 years — 1958 in Sweden — that the English have failed to advance past the first round once they've made it to the finals.

Yet that scenario is facing coach Fabio Capello and his apparently discordant English players — a loss to Slovenia would end any chance of England making it to the round of 16. England has two points after a 1-1 draw with the United States and a scoreless stalemate with Algeria.

Thousands of unsold seats await England
England manager Fabio Capello could face leading his team out to a stadium of empty seats following dismal performances from the national squad.

The team will line up against Slovenia at the 48,000 seat Nelson Mandela stadium in Port Elizabeth in a must win fixture following a lacklustre start to the tournament.

England supporters booed the players off the pitch following Friday’s 0 – 0 result against Algeria – a team ranked 30th in the world, 22 places below England.

England WAGs criticised over 'disgusting' £9,000 goody bag
Details of the party have emerged just days after Emile Heskey's fiancé, Miss Tagoe visited an orphanage on the outskirts of Cape Town.

Both Miss Tagoe and Matthew Upson's girlfriend Miss Darby also appeared in a BBC 3 documentary which saw them visit some of South Africa's poorest neighbourhoods to care for children infected by HIV.

An anti-poverty charity who work with some of South Africa's poorest people has labelled the free gifts as "disgusting".

French papers let rip at feuding France squad
One paper in particular, Le Parisien, summed up the mood of the French people as their football team suffered humiliation on a global scale with their public bickering and squabbling.

"To have the worst soccer team at the World Cup was already unbearable," exclaimed the paper. "To also have the most stupid is intolerable." Ouch.

Kaita receives "more than 1,000 threats to his e-mail from within Nigeria" after red card against Greece
"Kaita has so far received more than 1,000 threats to his e-mail from within Nigeria," said team spokesman Peterside Idah.

"We are taking these threats very seriously and have spoken to the Nigerian government to inform them about it. We have also written to FIFA to notify them."

If England fail to advance for the first time in 50 years then USA gets credit for that because we made them stumble in a tie in the important first game, which has caused them big(ger) mental problems.

I’m tired of these fake apologies from everyone. It seems that people think they can say or do anything and then all they have to do is apologize and everything will be alright again. That don’t work in my book.
