Charlotte, N.C. - Turner Sports will kick off its first 3D TV presentation at 7:30 p.m. EST July 3, with coverage of the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 via TNT RaceBuddy on NASCAR.com and DirecTV.

Turner said it is partnering with the NASCAR Media Group to present the race in 3D.

The 3D broadcast -- the first ever of a NASCAR event -- will complement a special television presentation on TNT, highlighted by the network's Wide Open format.

NASCAR.com will feature 3D feeds for the Daytona race in addition to the mosaic of HD-quality complementary unique camera angles available on TNT RaceBuddy on NASCAR.com (www.nascar.com/racebuddy) throughout the six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races televised on TNT.

Turner, which manages NASCAR.com, will also make the Sprint Cup Series race from Daytona International Speedway available in 3D through DirecTV, for subscribers with a 3D ready TV set.

Fans can go to www.nascar.com/racebuddy3D to get more information about the hardware and software used to view the 3D production online.

The 3D production will feature two custom racing feeds produced specifically for 3D. The first will provide a unique look at the racing action from strategically placed cameras around the track designed to maximize the effect of 3D, Turner Sports said.

The second stream will bring the mayhem of pit row into the third dimension, said to create a one-of-a-kind visual experience.

Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. EST with Countdown to Green, and continues with live race coverage in Wide Open format beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Wide Open format is a television presentation in which the network provides continuous race coverage free of national commercial breaks and features more unobstructed race action than that of a standard telecast by using a letterbox widescreen format.

That should be interesting.

Think of the sound rumbling through the neighborhood when you crank up the amp and sub woofer!

Interesting indeed...!

TNT sports coverage of Nascar is abysmal. There are far too many commercials. The announcers are lacking and the track coverage is incomplete. It’s as if they try to be bad at it, so watchers must be forced to pay for Race Buddy on TNT.com. As for 3D? I am still waiting to be wowwed by HD.

Yeah, I like Fox's coverage better, TNT never impressed me. 3D, I still don't have an HDTV, I'm limited in funds so my 1982 Zenith will have to do as it has been since 1983.
