Just asking... Plenty of articles on here lately like the gentleman who painted a sign on a truck in his cornfield, and someone who didn't like the message set it ablaze.
If someone would like to reduce the reach and effectiveness of FreeRepublic 20% in a day or two, why bother with laws and FCC internet control etc. Why not just crash the servers?

Recommend you get off-line contacts to 5-6 trusted freepers via phone, sms, twitter, ham radio, bulletin boards! Anything off-the-grid.
I agree. If any Washington State Freepers feel the same, Freepmail me and we can swap info in case of....well, just in case.
Its time for FR to get hardened, and I mean whatever it takes.

You can talk to them now and get their e-mail addresses ... if they'll give them to you ... a lot of them won't ...
I like the idea of another place to meet should FR be taken down. Keep us informed as this developes please. Especially as the election draws near for I anticipate BOS thugs will be busy on line crashing what they can and will when it matters for him to do just that. He’s a vile one and nothing past him to do.
To get out basic information and files and documents for something that cannot be easily blocked or interfered with -- you can use the Pirate Bay and BitTorrent to distribute information in documents or videos or even entire websites, themselves, which are compressed and then you load the whole thing on your own personal computer...

I’ve been having trouble getting on Free Republic for two days. Today I did a search for the FreeRepublic Yahoo site and a link came up to the FreeRepublic home page, so I clicked on it and got right on Free Republic. It’s been really weird.

The point of a DOS attack is to crash the server.
Yes... but not all server crashes are a DDOS or DOS attack ... :-) And you can easily tell when you've got them "going on" ...

I've read several instances where there was some kind of DOS or DDOS attack. So, I haven't said that there are none. I'm saying that this is not what was said for yesterday ... :-)
BUT, having said that, one just sets it up to be resistent to and overcome DDOS attacks. Different companies deal with this issue all the time. It's like any other kind of security issue on the Internet. It's part of "being online" ...
You have locks on your doors and you keep your windows shut and locked and your house secure when you're gone too ... :-) ... because there are thieves and criminals and crooks out there in the world ... nothing new here ...
