National Geographic had a show on methane/sea leaking some months back. I thin the speculation was a buildup in the sea, undetected, could pose catastrophic global event and may have done so in the past

It’s happening all over the world.

IIRC, that was suffocation, CO2, and bowl shaped geography in a much smaller area.
