It's not a "was" - though certainly there exists the delusional effect that Satan has on the non-believers across all the ages. But that's more like confusion, because Satan is the author of confusion.

However, the "strong delusion" is something sent by God Himself in the last days. (See 2 Thess. 2) Those who don't know Him will drown in the delusion, while those who do know Him will need to cling to Truth. "Thy Word is Truth."

There sure are lots of folks these days who believe in God...but few who believe God. Perhaps because the latter would require obeying His commandments & precepts.

"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near." Heb. 10:25
