I’ve had some wonderful dogs in my life and a few sorry good for nothing relatives. I’ll take the dogs any day.

I’ll agree that dogs for the most part are faithful. They won’t borrow money and not pay you back. They won’t have an affair with your wife. And they won’t borrow your favorite CD and leave it in a hot car to warp.

But then dogs don’t care about such things. Dogs will steal your slice of pizza off the coffee table when you get up and go to the bathroom. Dogs will get in the garbage can and spread trash all over the living room. Dogs will pee on your white walls. Dogs dig in your flower beds and roll around in a dead skunk.

Dogs and people have different faults which are part of their nature.

Dogs won’t come over and help you put on a new roof. Dogs won’t drive you to the doctor. Dogs won’t visit you in the hospital (usually and if they do some family member brought them). Dogs won’t listen to your stories every time you visit and laugh at the appropriate times.

Pets are great and I love them, they are a blessing of God but they are not people and they are not family. To treat then as such diminishes humanity.
