Did the article explain if the Vit.D supplements were or were NOT being digested? Did any of those studied receive shots of Vitamin D?
I've seen mention that obese people are low in Vitamin D because the Vit.D goes directly into the fat cells for storage instead of being used by the body. I think that I read recently that in Wilson's Disease, all dietary copper goes into liver storage and isn't accessible to the body.
I am curious if there may be something specific to the inflammatory response in the body which makes Vitamin D unassimilable in the human body???

I take 5,0000 IU/dayI have been doing that for about 18 months. I shunned the flu shots and didn't catch it. Since I live at 43N latitude, it is a good idea anyway.

AS I understand it . . . D3 in oil helps absorption.
I forget what the other factors are.

That is the $64k question. It may be that that assimilation in modestly inhibited and higher doses can compensate. 800-1,000 seems a pretty small dose to correct a deficiency. The research that prompted a 10-fold increase in the recommended daily dosing for pregnant women from 400iu to 4000iu used three dosing levels---400, 2000 and 4000. The 4000 dosing showed the best reduction in preterm labor and preterm birth problems as well as lower rates of infection. I think the next step is to substantially increase dosing options for the RA group (e.g., 2000, 5000, maybe even 10000---which are all safe levels) to see if that triggers a response. We know from other studies with older women that intake of VitD is inversely correlated with RA and that RA is more common in northern latitudes where VitD levels are lower because of less sunshine exposure.

Thanks for the ping. I’ve been lax about taking supplements lately so this made me get up and take them.

I get my vitamin D the old fashioned way - from the sun. It’s 1:30 pm in Phoenix and 105 degrees. I will soon put my bikini on and do the crossword puzzle IN THE SUN, by the pool. I do wear a hat though.
