A story surfaces in the local press:
[Then high school senior Brandon] Leslie said he introduced himself to Etheridge and asked him about his stance on a particular education program. He said Etheridge didn't answer his question, so he pressed him two more times.
"And that's when he grabbed me by the shoulders, he shook me, and I'll never forget it, he said, 'Son, you need to learn to respect your elders,'" he said by phone on Wednesday. "I was just so taken aback, I think my jaw just dropped, and he walked off."
Leslie said he was angrier about Etheridge's attitude and "patronizing" tone than the physical contact.
"It wasn't to hurt me, it wasn't to harm me," he says. "It was that he was irritated and wanted to get my attention."
Leslie said the incident caused somewhat of a firestorm at the time, and he was contacted by a few newspapers, but no stories ever appeared

Did you read the update? Is that plausible?
A Dem with a history of being an arrogant creep.
Who’d a thunk.
Why didn’t they sue?
Why didn’t the parents call this joke of a public official out?
I would have taken him to court. he is NOT too big to pay for his behaviors. I can tell you if someone did that to one of our family and grabbed them or treated them in a threatening manner like this etheridge joker....it would be a different story.

“UPDATE: Etheridge’s office puts out a statement from Ben Greene, retired principal of Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, North Carolina, who served in the post in 1996:
The story in today’s Pilot is inaccurate. I witnessed the event firsthand 14 years ago. The student was in the wrong, and Bob Etheridge acted appropriately at all times. I would have been happy to tell the newspaper reporter the facts in this matter, but I was never contacted before the story appeared in the newspaper.

He remembers this from 14 years ago and nothing happened?
14 years ago, that is why I asked is that plausible? Does anyone believe this principal?
Here is a better story from the principal’s point of view. It makes me believe the student.

I shocked that the students didn’t deck him.
