CARROLLTON, Texas, - A Texas woman said her son was humiliated by a staged picture taken by school officials that depicted the 11-year-old boy with his head in a trash can.
Shamica Neal said the photo, taken around May 5 and displayed on a bulletin board at Blanton Elementary School in Carrollton, depicts her son, Ladarion, with his head in a trash can as if he is vomiting with the school nurse nearby with the caption: "I'd rather be reading," The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.
Neal said the image caused her son to be teased by classmates and she has filed a grievance with the school district against the librarian, alleging her son suffered emotional damage as a result of the picture being displayed.
School officials said the picture was part of an "I'd rather be reading" campaign featuring images of students performing different tasks in different settings.
"That had nothing to do with reading," Neal said. "It was humiliating for him because kids were teasing him."
School officials confirmed a grievance was filed but would not comment further on the incident.
It was done willingly. Apparently there was a series a posters around school with pics of students doing goofy stuff with captions promoting reading. If he didn't want his picture up on the wall, then he shouldn't have done the pose. He and mama need to laugh it off and grow up.
As for their names, well, my theory is they name their kids by whatever their spoon of alphabet soup spells out.
Sorry to hear about the kid having problems on the one hand.
However, are there not a few issues here, such as privacy, medical issues, the bubbles being over housekeeping employee, bubbles not over kid; further because this is a marketing/advertisement campaign as stated by school officials, the kid deserves compensation and credit/payment or royalties/residuals.
High degree of probability, ;-)
Gee, let me guess...they want money.
Most 11 yr. olds would hold this kid in high esteem for getting to pose like he’s puking. This woman is looking to be offended.
