LIMA, Peru (AP) - For all of his garrulous charm, Joran van der Sloot didn't do himself any favors in his online interactions, where his generation tends to reveal a lot about itself. "If I would have to describe myself as an animal it would be a snake," he wrote on his YouTube page. Perhaps wistfully wishing the past undone, he continued: "however, I want to be a lion and one day I will be a lion."
At age 22, Van der Sloot is now a caged animal. He sits in a bleak third-world prison, where he fears his fellow inmates. After requesting isolation, he shares a cellblock with a reputed Colombian murderer-for-hire.
Van der Sloot's journey from the quiet comfort of Aruba to being escorted briskly in handcuffs past Peruvian crowds screaming "murderer" is a tale of dissolution, deception and increasing desperation, according to friends and people who have chronicled his life.

No, I’m not blaming the victim. But Natalee came from a very similar background as Joran. Her parents were wealthy. She was probably spoiled. I have a feeling, in the eyes of her mother, Natalee could do no wrong. I’m saying this young lady had a false sense of invincibility- she was rich, she had everything she wanted. She was, more or less, used to other kids in the same socio-economic class. With her sense of privilege, she was pretty much defenseless against a psychopath like Joran. Natalee was spoiled to death- and I do blame her mother.
Sounds like just the kind of guy who doesn't let outdated things like "morals" get in the way of what he wants to do. Hooray for the radical secularisation of Western society.
No matter, the media will still find a way to portray him as some sort of right-winger.

True about their similar upbringing but even underprivileged kids have a sense of invincibility. It comes from youth & inexperience. I don’t think it has anything to do with how much money one is raised with. Natalee is dead because Joran killed her. She had the misfortune of meeting a monster in disguise.
I watched his interviews with Greta and I really don’t know what to make of him. He seems strangely devoid of emotion and doesn’t allow any expression to flash on his face. Unnervingly like Obama.

Here’s the only deal I would throw at Van Der Sloot.
Give up the remains of Natalee Holloway (Confirmed By DNA)
and the Peruvian athorities will allow u to serve out your sentence in isolation and not the general population.
Otherwise, u will get thrown to the hardened criminals.
that would be ok with me, IF the gen population could break through his solitary confinement and finish him off after we get her body back.
