Aggies want a fresh start
Houston Chronicle ^ | 6.13.10 | Richard Justice

Let's not make things more complicated than they are. In the end, Texas A&M is sick and tired of living in the large shadow of the University of Texas. Sick and tired of Texas' success and money. Sick and tired of the never-ending arms race for newer and better facilities. Forget those arguments about travel and culture and television revenues. If Texas A&M jumps to the Southeastern Conference, it'll be because the Aggies have had enough of being compared to and defined by the Longhorns.

In the end, A&M will follow their big brother to the Pac 10.

However, the only thing that A&M really offers to Pac 10 is for the Anthropology students at Stanford and Cal to conduct a little research during their trips to College Station..

Interesting, inciteful observations.

Then again, he is writing about football.

The writer leaves out the part about the most widely watched A&M game each and every year is their game against the Longhorns.

Sounds you are just a hater of Texas A&M. Seems like a strange place to spew the hatred. Oh, and I seem to remember that the Texas fight song has a few words about A&M too! GIG em AGGIES!!

TV is a curse for the Aggies. I say that as a proud Aggie too.

Just an hour or two ago, I had the (unfortunate under the circumstances) opportunity to speak with one of A&M’s Board of Regents members. He told me he has yet to speak to an Aggie that supports a move to the PAC. I get the feeling we are SEC bound.

WHOOP! I hope they do jump to the SEC. Then we’ll finally get to see them play. We have moved away since graduation and never get to games anymore.

Not at all. I’ve got a nephew in the Corps of Cadets.

Richard Kimball, I do believe that your beloved Texas Fight makes reference to A&M. Texas Fight, Texas Fight and it’s goodbye to A&M!!

The SEC would probably be a better choice for all the schools that have an option. Texas, Oklahoma, OSU and A&M make more sense in the SEC. We could call it the Confederacy.

Baylor gets hosed no matter what, which I'm pretty sure has TCU fans snickering with glee. I've even heard that TCU would try to blackball a Baylor entry into the WAC.

How Christian of them!

Please. You’re citing 10 games as evidence. I cite the fact that Texas is ducking the SEC. And, you all time records mean nothing first of all because most of those wins against Arkansas were when both were part of the Southwest conference. Secondly, only relatively recently has the SEC been rcognized as the best football conference in America.

Cite all the stats you want, rationalize all you want, but you and the whole of the Texas fanbase know that a PAC-10 schedule or even continued Big 12 schedule will afford you more wins than joining the SEC. Period, end of story.

Yeah, there’s one reference to A&M. What can I say? The kid was bugging us all week about him not being in our song at all when his whole fight song was about us. ;0>

Well, the original Big 12 agreement included TCU, but Ma Richards shoved them out for Baylor. They’ve been wandering in the wilderness for 14 years.

We could call it the Confederacy.

In this politically correct era you'd be better off calling it the Union.

Jerry Jones got the Aggies to play the Hogs every year in his new stadium. He offered it to Texas first but they didn’t want Arkansas to have the recruting foot in Dallas. So the Aggies jumped at the chance. Now, if they go to the SEC and play Arkansas every year in Dallas it’s a natural rivalry. I’d love to see it.

I went to Baylor and UT. I love the Hogs since I’m from Arkansas. And I pull for Baylor most saturdays. But I LOVE the SEC!

I think the two Longhorn cheerleaders on the left are men. Looks like they’re taking a leak.

And, as I said, I went to UT and I lived in College Station for a year. The women at A&M are prettier. And I never saw one with purple hair.
