Forget about the mess in the Gulf. Forget about the plunging U.S. and world economies. The question on everyones mind is Who are Obamas picks for the World Cup?
Until now, the U.S. president has remained above the fray, preferring to let others handle the day to day controversies that inevitably creep into these divisive contests. But he cannot remain on the sidelines forever. That puts Mr. Obama in a potentially explosive situation. Will he support the U.S.A., the purported land of his birth, will he pay homage to the traditional European powers, or will he root for some underdog?
If recent history is any indication, Obama will avoid any positive displays toward the home team. He cannot be seen as encouraging the U.S. in the international arena. That would give the impression that he favors one nation over another. And that would damage his image a fair-minded citizen of the world.
The World Cup provides the greatest forum for Mr. Obama to promote his policies of equality and social justice. Indeed, soccer offers the most equitable distribution of points among the planets top sports. Unlike basketball, where sometimes hundreds of points are awarded per game, and the gap between winners and losers can be immense, soccer keeps its scoring of points very low. Everyone involved accepts that no one team is allowed to excel too highly above any other. That would be unjust. Unfortunately, the ideal outcome in the World Cup has not been achieved for many years. In nearly every case, one team has prevailed against all others in the final contest. One has to go back to 1994, to find true equity in the distribution of points at the end of regulation playing time. Even then, the world succumbed to capitalist tendencies and proclaimed a winner after a series of aptly named penalty kicks.
Will this year be any different? Will the world finally see true equality in determining outcomes of sports contests? Will Obama stick with his globalist values, or will he give in to the nationalist tendencies of his countrymen and cheer for the U.S.? We know his true loyalties lie with the world community, but just last week, Mr. Obama was said to have watched one of the games in the NBA playoffs. Mr. President, how could you?
“The question on everyone’s mind”
ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME ???
Iran or Kenya if either made it.
Not England, no U.S.
The White Sox
He will cheer for any muslim country that is entered. He probably won’t be able to watch the matches though. The White House party schedule has got him pretty well booked these days.
Of course. It’s satire.
you sound like drinkingwithbob.
Kenya didn’t make it in.
I’d say N. Korea is his likely choice.
WGAF about Obama’s choice, OR the event itself? World Cup Soccer? ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
No matter who Obama decides to cheer for in the World Cup - they’re sure to lose!!!!!
The Obama Curse strikes again...
Bwahaha!
