“Youre referring to The Heros Journey by Joe Campbell. It said that Star Wars was the best script ever written in Hollywood”
I thought I read it in the companion book from the Moyer’s interview with Campbell called “The Power of Myth.” Anyhow, evidently Lucas made a big to-do about how he used the ordered steps of what constitutes a hero’s journey from Campbell’s book of that name to create his film characters . Campbell then went on to film the Moyers interview at Lucas’s Skywalker ranch. In his early work, Campbell made some interesting literary analyses of archetypes but should have steered clear of religious statements. A grumbling ex Catholic, he admitted to Moyers that if he were to adhere to a religion or a view of the after life, it would be the hindu one. Campbell became a guru and hollywood types and his wealthy Sarah Lawrence students, his groupies. That type of person has no real credibility.
Why do you say that?
