Actually, I would hold off on the meds and suggest group therapy, with maybe some one-on-one counseling. Then, after a few months, re-evaluate his mental status.
Of course, I wouldn't rule out a little electro-shock therapy. Nothing like a good zap to get one's mind back in focus!
