I really do not see what the big deal is about Scientology. Their beliefs might be a little kooky but they aren't crashing planes into buildings, hijacking commercial shipping, slitting peoples' throats, forcibily converting people with the business end of a weapon or engaging in other forms of wanton destruction on an hourly basis.

If someone isn't crazy about Scientology, then don't be a Scientologist.

South Park was only the most recent to distribute the nonsense from Scientology. It was already widely available to anyone that could use Google:

The part about “forcibily converting people with the business end of a weapon” might have a little truth to it. More than a few former Scientologists have come out with stories about abuse, violence and blackmail to keep them in order.

Other than that, let people believe what they want to believe and let their leaders take the suckers’ cash.

The best part of that South Park episode was when they had “THIS IS WHAT SCIENTOLOGISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE” posted while they described their nutty little cult.

For starters, setting up “schools” for the purpose of slow indoctrination. I’m not sure if they forcibly convert people “with the business end of a weapon,” but they sure get enough information about someone through counseling. It comes in handy when one wants to leave.

Scientology was written by a sci-fi author.

Some in the organization are pretty rough (verbally harassing and extorting) on those who want to leave the cult or even more explicitly, expose what they saw while in the cult.

The process of cleansing yourself of impurities is called “auditing” and it will cost you $$$ to read the grand SF novel that “ElRonHoover” wrote.

Germany tried to prohibit it. Bill Clinton saw it become officially recognized as a religion and not a business by our government.

Charles Manson reportedly tested “clear” in the 1960s. I also read that he had acquired one of their meters and was using it at Spahn Ranch.

If you are a member of the Church you are told to recruit not just regular people, but those that are well off. Look at some of the people involved in it:
Lisa Marie and Prisilla Presely, Isaac Hayes (Who quit South Park after they took shots at COS), John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Sonny Bono (not 100%, but definitley involved), Kirstie Alley, Anne Archer, Catherine Bell (JAG, Army wives), Nancy Cartwright (Simpsons voice overs) and the list goes on.P>They are a very dangerous cult with suits rather thatn saffron robes.

I’m aware of Scientology using such tactics to coerce people into not leaving the faith. However, this sort of thing happens in other situations. It certainly is not unique to Scientology. People have to look before they leap, and no amount of government protection or regulation is going to change that.

And a lot of these celebrities are closet gays, who know if they leave the Church, the Church will expose all of their dirty little secrets.

Agreed.
But this article was about Scientology, so I limited my comments thusly.

Those crazy polygamist sects that trade young girls between adult/geriatric men need to be raided, burned to the ground and the men and enabling women executed.

Just my thoughts.
Not a religious hatred, but a hatred for men and women who abuse kids.

I thought Tom Cruise was a fudge packer. Stan’s dad, Randy, saw Tom Cruise working a job where he was clearly packing fudge.
