Remember the evacuation at Dunkirk?

In an alternate universe, Barack Churchill would have sat in Downing Street blaming Neville Chamberlain while making plans for a fundraiser. When asked why no boats were sent to evacuate the troops at Dunkirk, Barack Churchill blamed Chamberlain for not building them and scoffed at the idea that private citizens could use their own boats in the evacuation.

Katrina was a failure of the GOVERNED as well as the government

Mayor Nagin failed to execute the city’s disaster plan, and the governor failed to perform in a timely manner certain acts absent which the president’s hands were tied, in terms of procedural legality, as I understand what happened (or didn’t) in the case of Katrina. The anti-Bush pressd saw to it that Dubya is forever tagged DITHERING FAILURE, not to mention INSENSITIVE, UNCARING CLOD.

Citizens can’t be part of the equation in solving problems; they can only be victims needing help from the government.

I guess the floods in Tennessee and blizzards in the upper midwest don’t fit the profile.

I laughed at Barack Churchill; it was easier for me to see Neville Obama!

There are some significant problems with your photo-opinion. First of all, the buses were all owned by a private company. What law gives the mayor of a city the right to take that property? Maybe the owner wanted the insurance money for those buses because he knew that if a bad storm hit the city, there would be no schools open afterword and no need for his business and those buses. Second, where are the drivers for those buses? They weren't sitting around by the phone. They were on the way out of town with their families. Third, and most important, the people who stayed behind were, for the most part, riding out the storm and refused to leave. How can the government go door-to-door and forcibly remove everyone from their homes with only hours to go before the storm hit? As far as your photo of the boom, it comes out in large flatbed loads, not piecemeal. I pass truckloads of that boom everyday on the way to and from work. I see nothing in that photo that suggests that it is not being produced and delivered as quickly as possible.

I posted an article here about how the Maine owner of the factory that makes those oil booms is frustrated because nobody has bought them. They are just sitting in his warehouse.

A kid famously drove one of those buses all the way to Houston. Need a driver? Just ask someone, anyone to drive the thing.

If someone from the govt came to your house with a bus and demanded that you and your family get on, would you do so? If you asked where you were going and they said they couldn’t say except that you would be held in a secure, guarded facility and not allowed to leave, would you still get on that bus?

Doesn’t it seem strange to you that there are plenty of companies getting boom delivered day and night, but you found one company who can’t seem to get there act together in getting a govt contract? Whose fault is that?

If the boom is getting delivered then why is Bobby Jindal way short on the amount of boom he requested?

I don’t that a likely scenario during Katrina. More like, the levee has broken: hop aboard or drown.

That is a photo of oil boom sitting in a Maine warehouse despite the fact it is desperately needed in the Gulf of Mexico.

I know. I read that particular thread in which the poster asked for the juxtaposed photos. In equating the photo of the boom sitting uselessly in Maine, with the photo of "Commodore Nagin's Gulf of Mexico fleet of yellow submarines", the ineptness of 'progreesive' policy, and the harm it does to individuals, who scarce count amongst 'progressives' becomes starkly apparent. Thus my comment...

Yeah, shoulda seen the cars being stolen by the police and taking them to Houston, they say it was a convoy of them just about.

I am SO glad that when they were looking for police in the Ms delta back when I did buy into their spill, always has been a place not to work as a policeman.
