We really do live in the golden age of awesome handguns. I think before you decide you should also try the Springfield XDm 3.8 in 9mm if that is the caliber you prefer.

Unfortunately, I live in a state that limits the capacity to 10+1, and therefore, the XDm is not an option.

The reason I am going with the 9mm is because the ammo is a lot less expensive than the .40 and .45., and the cost adds up quickly when you shoot as much as I like to shoot. I already have a Marlin 1894 in a .357 and a S & W 686 with the 4" barrel, and I want something different that doesn't cost as much to feed.

I know that I’m late for your party, but, another 9mm you should give a look to is the new Taurus PT 709 Slim. It is the same size as a Walther PPS, but has a manual safety. It is a SA/DA striker-fired 7+1 compact. 6.24 inches LOA. 3.2 inch barrel, 19 ounces, and less than an inch thick. The trigger has a safety lever, and a visual loaded chamber indicator. It also has a keyed safety for when you store the firearm, disabling the pistol. The SA/DA allows a standard SA pull, but in the case of a Fail-To-Fire, gives a DA second strike capability.
I have put over 400 rounds through it, and have experienced absolutely no problems, what so ever. The price for mine was $370.00.
This is my new CC firearm. My Ruger LCP now being a BUG.
