Graduated from high school, Dad stationed at Chanute AFB, left home and spent the summer with my grandmother in Bellflower CA. It was a summer never to be forgotten.
I grew up in West Whittier, not far from Bellflower. We liked to shop at Fedco, a membership discount store, sort of like Costco or Sam’s Club, located in Dutch Village, a shopping center at Woodruff and South in Lakewood. In those days, there was no 605 freeway, so it took a long time to get there from Whittier.
Dutch Village, which actually looked like a Dutch village, was torn down several years ago and replaced with strip malls.
