I don’t understand why we don’t use more diesel technology.
I have a diesel pickup that dynos 450RWHP (after some mods), weighs 6,500 pounds, runs a 1/4 in 13 seconds and gets 25-26MPG (empty) on the highway.
There is no reason a 4 cylinder turbo diesel sedan couldn’t get 50-60MPG. You can make biodiesel from about anything from peanuts to algae poop.

You can get a Subaru wagon for about the same price ...
Seats 5, gets 26-28 mpg city/32-34 mpg highway, PLUS you have a lot of room for hauling stuff around ...
Subaru is the better deal ...

If you saw the car with the logos covered like this prototype could you tell what it was? Hyundai? Kia? Saturn? Chevy? Fiat?

Looks like crap for 19k, if it cost 12k base price, I would consider it if it wasn’t made by Government Motors.

I'll walk first.
Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

It’s not surprising that a conventional auto could have “hybrid like” numbers.
The whole “hybrid” gig is just a hoax. About like H1N1 or AGW.

Rather get a Honda Civic for 25% less.
Only if you get a used Civic. A low end Civic starts at 15.7K and the low end Cruze at just under 17K but that's not the whole story because the Cruze has many standard features not offered on the Civic. When you compare apples to apples, Cruze is a better deal and it's a lot safer car as well as more fuel efficient. So you really need to get your facts straight before posting and while you are at it, you might think about investing in a calculator.
And why is the Cruze an Obama car when it was conceived and designed before Obama was elected?
