40 MPG Chevy Cruze Eco to Start at About $19,000 (ObamaCar)

When they unveiled their plans to build a 40 mpg Eco version of their upcoming Chevy Cruze at the New York Auto Show last April, GM claimed that the Cruze Eco would have the fuel economy of a hybrid at a much lower price. Today GM put an actual number on what a much lower price means: a starting price of $18,995 for the base Cruze Eco when it goes on sale later this year.
Whether that is really a much lower price than the hybrid competition is a whole nother thing entirely.

You can get a Subaru wagon for about the same price ...
Seats 5, gets 26-28 mpg city/32-34 mpg highway, PLUS you have a lot of room for hauling stuff around ...
Subaru is the better deal ...
Sewage! The Cruze is a great car and will be the best in the compact class until possibly the new Ford Fusion that will debut in early 2011. The Cruze comfortably fits 5 and has the best safety specs of anything in its class. It has the features to make it best in its class. Besides who would drive a Subaru? I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Subaru.

Just this week I picked up a sweet ‘06 350Z topdown Roadster with but 27K miles for only $3,000 more than this thing.
Not only will my carbon footprint be off-the-charts (eff ewe, Goracle), but I’m pullin’ 12.8’s in the standing quarter mile. And getting a tan doing it.
SCORE!

The Cruze is a flippin’ Government Motors car. Treat the Cruze just like a UAW punk would treat a Honda in the Chevy parking lot. I stop just shy of recommending that people key every one that they see.
We need to sink GM, not embrace it. Fascism must fail.

That's what trucks are made for. But seriously the two vehicles are in different categories and so comparisons aren't so easy. The Cruze is a Sedan and the Subaru a Wagon. The Cruze won't have a hatchback for another year. The New Ford Focus will have a 5-Door Hatch. Check it out.

After seeing this new Ford, you will want to trade in that lame Subaru.

Rather get a Honda Civic for 25% less.
Only if you get a used Civic. A low end Civic starts at 15.7K and the low end Cruze at just under 17K but that's not the whole story because the Cruze has many standard features not offered on the Civic. When you compare apples to apples, Cruze is a better deal and it's a lot safer car as well as more fuel efficient. So you really need to get your facts straight before posting and while you are at it, you might think about investing in a calculator.
And why is the Cruze an Obama car when it was conceived and designed before Obama was elected?

Ill take ANY VW TDI and get high 40s low 50s with the manual transmission.I'd like that TDI in a small, 3000 pound 4WD VW pickup with a 6-speed manual. Throw in class II towing, a roomy interior, and the ability to carry 4 ft wide plywood and drywall and it would sell like hotcakes.

After seeing this new Ford, you will want to trade in that lame Subaru. You numbskull - can't afford 2 vehicles. But need a car for driving the family PLUS haulin' equipment for work. Don't need a sedan - don't need an SUV ... need [and have] something in between.
I get about 80% of the efficiency of your "dream car" and about 140% of the cargo space.
For about the same price ...

20k for that little pos?
Have you looked at the Specifications for the Cruze? The Cruze has more interior Room than your Firebird. And if you want to talk about a POS, GM didn't make many cars worse than the Firebird, at least in terms of interior quality. My brother had one and it was a piece of junk. GM at it's worst! The interior of that car literally fell apart. It did run reasonable well though. You might have got 30mpg on the hwy if you had one of the V6s (200hp)but with the V8 you would come close unless going downhill.

Actually, I will be trading in the Subaru next year and getting the Focus Wagon - it came down to the Subaru or the Focus wagons last time [wife wanted the Subaru] ...
This next time its gonna be the Focus [ 2-4 mpg better gas mileage] ...

Diesel emissions for Cars in the USA are based on the gallon rather then the mile.

Hybrids are a neat idea, but the execution is something to be desired. I can get 53 hypermiling in my ancient saturn.

Then go and buy a new Camaro (same car) and stop making dumb posts knocking a car which you have neither driven or even seen (most likely). Cruze is a very competitive car in its class. How do you call a car a POS without first driving it? The Firebird my brother had was a good driving car but the interior fell apart rather quickly and it was garaged! Granted it was a late 1980’s model and GM has tremendously improved their quality since them. My next car will be GM, possibly a Camaro.

I wouldn't have another GM car if you paid me to drive it.
You're on the wrong forum to be hawking Gubmint Motors and obama mobiles, you go buy a camaro and support the commie regime.
And another thing, you might consider toning down your insipid, arrogant, insulting posting style, you come off as a real ass.
