I understand your point. what I have asked previously, though, is whether questions about Obama’s status put US military personnel at risk. If Obama is not a legitimate commander, would any orders issues be legitimate? And if not, would a soldier following them somehow fall outside of Geneva Conventions protections?

Maybe it sounds far-fetched, and certainly our enemies don’t need any excuses to treat any captured US military personnel savagely - they would do it anyway.

But for me, questions remain. I know other intelligent, sincere people disagree.
