What you hear when mortars are being launched in your general direction: "Incoming! Incoming! Take cover, take cover, take cover. Seek shelter in the nearest hardstand structure. If you are in a hardstand structure, shelter in place. Take cover, take cover, take cover."
Just thought I'd throw that in...
I understand it is not the only use for that announcement.
I lived by the sewer, I died by the sewer.
Some called it mortar but I called it sewer side.
“Can we just institute a nationwide kill on these freaking animals alread???!!!!!!!!!!”
Bans don’t work because they don’t address the real problem. Look at the UK- since their ban, their attacks have increased dramatically, and they now have more pit bulls than they did before the ban. Denver’s ban did not reduce the number of attacks, even though they were really good at killing lots and lots of dogs over it. Several European countries that had bans have repealed them, replacing them with responsible dog ownership laws. Calgary never banned any dogs and have seen a wonderful reduction in attacks after implementing responsible ownership laws.
Every expert on the subject, every professional with education and experience, every organization (that is reputable) says the same thing. There is no evidence that any breed is any more likely to attack than another. Pit bulls are the most popular dog in many areas, and with many bad owners who want them for the wrong reasons, it’s no surprise that right now they are in the news a lot.
However, there are 13 thousand attacks from dogs every single day in this country, yet for some reason, the only ones appearing on the news are caused by the dogs that the media prefers to report on. The same thing happened with several other dog breeds over the years, and the popularity of the dog is only increased by media reports, making them desirable to the wrong people. 19 People died last year from dogs that were not pit bulls. What would a breed ban have done for them?
www.cdc.gov- There’s a decades-long study on here that is often misused for breed ban enthusiasts. The overall message the authors are trying to convey is completely lost on most people with attention spans much too short to do anything but look at the breed table. Their whole point was to show that many breeds attack and kill, and that the most common thread among all dog attacks is the treatment of the dog...ie, the responsibility of the owner.
www.atts.org- This site shows the results of thousands of dogs tested on unprovoked aggression. You can see where your favorite breed compares to the rest, and see where pit bulls rank, which might surprise you.
www.nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com- This site has an entire book free to read, that is about the dog bite problem, with research dating back all the way to the 1800’s.
www.kcdogblog.com- This lists all of last year’s fatalities from dog bites, including the breed of dog, the care it received, the age of the person, and even the income level of the area. There is a correlation in many of these cases between the income level and the level of irresponsible or uneducated dog owners.
So ..... I’m in lust - er, uh - LOVE ..... with the dappled Pit Bull and the cat.
Of course.
The cat.
..... LOOOOOVE the cat.
That is ADORABLE!!
Her pets are cute, too.
here pitty pitty
I wish you could net them and ship them here to teach our “entitled” snots some road manners.....:)
Yep it would be nice, I’ve run into a few of the entitled ones in town before they are a real pain in the drain.
Chet, he was RIDING a BICYCLE! If that is NOT provoking, then I just don’t understand the meaning of the word.
Out here in The Wastelands, those yellow “Share The Road” signs are popping up like mushrooms on a wet lawn.
I’m ~still~ wondering who they’re addressed to....:)
Maybe for the illegals?
Probably not.
The illegals are all tooling around in the Toyota pickups and Honda CRXs they get at the weekly auto auction.
Hubby and I did the bicycling thing for a while but we rode strictly on the C&O Canal paved bike path where there were no cars to be interfering with.
