There are many unanswered questions and it appears this second murder was preventable had van der Sloot been arrested. The FBI has a lot of explaining to do. Why did they wait? What did they know and when? Why were they not at least following him? They knew he committed a crime as of May 10.

I actually wonder if he lied to her and told her there was an after hours high stakes poker game in a hotel room he knew about -- so that he could get her into the hotel room and rob her of her 5 thousand dollars winnings.

Her ex-girlfriend in Miami told the press this morning that Stephany would NEVER have gone to any hotel room with a man, as she'd be afraid of them murdering her as a lesbian, or kidnapping her for her dad to pay a large ransom.

I seriously wonder if he gave her roofies, and she died -- and when he realized she was dead, he went utterly BERSERK.

I doubt that they could ever prove that with an autopsy, because the beating bruises and the stab wounds, and whatever damage happened to the eye would have occurred to close to the time of her demise.

Yes Mike, this new information about the case just makes me cringe; I can't begin to imagine how the Holloways and Beth Twitty feel right now, I mean this is an utter nightmare, right?

I am thinking, though, that maybe the ARUBAN LEOS ratted out the sting to Joran and that's why he split quick, with the cash.

This so called man is a complete animal and the Arubans knew it all the time. They need to be prosecuted also. I am so angered over this situation. The FBI however had no control over what Aruba did? Aruba gave them NO ground whatsoever. I’m not quite as willing to come down on the FBI as you seem to be. I think America wants justice for one of its own but you are dealing with international law and you see how well that works. The Netherlands is pathetic to say the least. CO

I heard Jossy Mansur say it was big news in Aruba.
Some folks on Aruba are angry, even previous Joran supporters, according to Jossy. I wonder if Anita is feeling any heat?

Joran van der Sloot led a high-stakes life in South America

When reached at her home — a one-story cinder block house painted mustard yellow — Anita van der Sloot sounded composed and attempted to politely dismiss any inquiries about her son.

She has two other sons, Valentijn and Sebastian. She is now a widow. Her husband died suddenly last February while playing tennis.

At the very least the FBI knew of the payment (though I truly believe that it was FBI money) and let funds be electronically transferred to a foreign bank without having the suspect in sight or control.

One theory:
He entered the poker tournament hoping, of course, to win big, needing money to live. Instead he chatted up a girl who had won $5K or so, somehow enticed her back to his room (spiked drink?) where she maybe put up a fight both for the money and perhaps because she wouldn’t have sex (she was apparently a recently ‘out’ lesbian) & Joran then lost it and went pyscho on her.
