Beautiful write-up. Even given all the caveats, I still have to say that it would be awe-inspiring if it actually blew within our lifetimes.

True it would be.

However, being that its 600 light years away (+/-), we wouldn't see it. The Super Nova would be seen by 'us' around 2610 if it went today. Unless it already blew back around 1410 (+/-), then we'd see it 'in our lifetime'.

That's one of the things I love about Astronomy / Cosmology, when you look at a a Star you are looking back in time. How cool is that ;-)
