A 13 year old has no business hanging with 18 and 19 Y.O.s with out supervision, and the college is not in a position to provide it...

The home schooled part has nothing to do with it.

Your opinion has been proven wrong time and time and time and time again..................

They're not "hanging out" as you claim but rather just attending classes.

I was not going to post further on this thread, but find the premise I think you are positing is a faulty one.

The sex and drugs behavior all too rampant on all too many campuses is hardly restricted to colleges. Thanks to “OuR Bill” the walking, talking Klintoon, oral sex is now commonplace in secondary schools.

Not forget, drugs, vaginal sex, and teachers pushing other varieties of sex best not detailed (my dinner is NOT beyond the point of no return) being all too common in middle schools, high schools, and even in some 5th and 6th grade classes.

An early teen told her mother that oral sex was normative on dates to the movies (middle school girl, remember!).

Why? According to the 13 year old niece, if you do that on the way to the movie, you can watch the movie without your date groping you all during the movie.

The uncle of that girl was Chief of the School Police Unit in a huge urban school system. I verified the story with “Da Chief”.

As a Jesuit once said, “Give me the child until the age of six, and I will not fear for the soul of the child thereafter.

With good parenting, the school need not fear any “ban influences” from the older children.

However, given the far better socialization, and more rapid maturation of home schooled students, she might inhibit some of the socialist and perverse tendencies of the other students.

The Horror! The Horror!

;-)

I agree with you. I’m sure the parents think their daughter is mature but putting a 13 year old against a bunch of kids in their 18-19-20’s.... I don’t know.

You know, that is such a public school mentality that it's ridiculous. Since when is life supposed to be so segregated? The only place it is, is IN the public school system and it's done nothing but produce a bunch of socially inept misfits.

Do you spend every day locked in a room with other people exactly your own age?

Should we say that you have no business hanging out with people 5-6 years older than you?

Homeschoolers socialization skills are light years ahead of your average public school kid. THEY know how to interact with people who are not their same age.

Besides, taking college courses is NOT *hanging out* with 18 and 19 year olds.

Starting when I was 8 all my friends, to this day, are 8 to 10 years older than I am.

I started hot rodding at 8, drove my first dragster at 12 and never looked back and i’m 72 today.

What I find incredibly ironic in this whole thread, is that homeschoolers are so commonly criticized for over protecting their kids.

Then there are so many people here on this thread who are criticizing homeschoolers for ........not protecting their kids enough.

They’re insisting that they need to be protected because someone who never met the kids has determined that homeschooled kids are not ready socially for dealing with *real* life.

Can’t win as a homeschooler, can we?

Sorry, I don’t buy into this line of reasoning. An 18 or 19 year old has no business engaging in dishonorable or illegal behavior with a 13 year old. What makes college as a location any different from say a shopping mall?

So, we'll put kids in public high schools where 13 year old junior highers will be hanging around with 19 year old seniors under the *supervision* or whom? Teachers who molest their students?

The very concerns that so many are expressing about a 13 year old facing in college are the very things that those same thirteen year olds will be facing in the average public school.

And they're far less likely to encounter them in college, where there are actually mature adults around.

"A 13 year old has no business hanging with 18 and 19 Y.O.s with out supervision"

Well...that's why I'm so screwed up.

My parents let me hang with the 18 yr old kid down the street..who was always pulling his engine out of his '70 something Chevy Camero. Rebuilding it..and I handed him tools, washed parts, and basically bugged the hell out of him for hours.

Another older kid on the street...introduced me to slot cars...and we spent hrs there together. It's a wonder I'm even alive.

My best buddy and I used too play "over-the-line" with two guy's that were 4-5 yrs older than us..when we were something like 14...My mom never worried, my dad never worried. But that certainly messed my best buddy up...He's an attorney now.

Used to surf with older kids all the time....they hauled me to the beach. Put up with me...Heck I think they even liked me a little.

It's a wonder I'm not in prison.
