I went to Hawaii last year and for the first time wore flip-flops. I now get the appeal of them. Comfortable in hot weather as your feet breathe and don't sweat. I used to wear deck shoes with my shorts in summer but on hot days, my feet can really get to smelling bad with them. Still, men in flip-flops look sort of dorky (unless you are vacationing in Hawaii or maybe on Key West) so I compromised with men's sandals that hide most of the feet but allow air to circulate.
