Nah, I think that Malia is the “apple of her daddy’s eye,” he seems to frequently be genuinely touched by things she says or does — I think that his relationship with his eldest daughter might be one of the few places in his entire life where spontaneity & innocence reign supreme.

I think there's more to it than that. Little Malia's unquestioning devotion to her Daddy is also evident in the media and among Obama's core supporters - they really and truly believe that Daddy himself was capable of plugging the hole/fixing a broken toy/kissing a boo-boo and making everything all better. But little girls eventually grow up and, even though they don't lose their affection for their fathers, they do come to realize that is just a man and has limited capabilities.

The American public and the media will eventually come to the same conclusion - it's ok to love the big guy, but he cannot fix everything.
