American Idol announced the winner for 2010 this evening. The fan favorite, Lee DeWyze took home the win.
Lee DeWyze has had his ups and downs this season, but sometimes that is a good thing. Everyone loves an underdog and Lee DeWyze was the underdog for American Idol...at least he was after Tim Urban was voted off.
Lee suffered from a lack of confidence, which we all can relate to, most have been in that situation at some point in their life.
Lee did not have a lack talent, Lee has a wonderful voice, he just came across as being vulnerable at times during his performance. A quality which is endearing. This vulnerability tugged on heart strings and garnished Lee with a huge fan base. This fan base was the reason Lee DeWyze won American Idol.
Crystal Bowersox has the better voice of the two American Idol finalists. But Crystal did not possess a likability. Her confidence level was so strong that she came across as being smug at times. This over confidence is quite possibly the reason Crystal did not earn the American Idol win.
Crystal Bowersox is by no means a loser. That lady will make it. A talent like that will not go unrecognized.
Congratulations go out to Lee DeWyze, the American Idol winner. He deserves all the best.

Ok, not lowest total for first album. He’s second lowest, Kris Allen is lowest, but Kris Allen’s album is still getting airplay. So, Kris Allen will sell more than what he has so far. What’s the date on those totals? If Kris Allen’s 300 or so K is current, it is likely that he won’t pass Taylor Hicks.
The top selling album these days doesn’t sell near as much as the top selling album did 4, 5 or 10 years ago. That could be factored in, but how do you quantify that precisely? But, yeah, Kris Allen is below Taylor Hicks and will probably stay there if those numbers are right.
Lee may get a lot of mileage out of his Idol win, and I can see how his appeal grew and grew as he himself came out of his shell as a performer. After the last performance TUesday night, when Simon communicated the message to the ‘swing voters’ that Lee was what the Idol competition was all about, and that he “deserved a break”, it was clear what the strategy was.
At the same time, by their words they cleverly crowned Crystal the winner whether she wound up winning or not.
So they nudged the voting Lee’s way, and for weeks, Simon was building him up for just that reason..
Lee will probably do well, but I think his main problem is that he now has to start all over again, in the more confusing and demanding arena of the REAL music business, and if too much is asked of him, he may falter and be gone in a year or two.
And yeah, I too thought Crystal was considerably more talented and soulful, my personal favorite was Siobhan, and recognized just how fickle this show is in the voting when both Lily Scott and Kaitlyn Epperley got voted off far, far too early, while Paige, who gave two of the strangest vocals featuring her own weeping I have ever seen on that show, hung on to the top 12, I think it was.
How old exactly were these teen girls? If I was to guess, based on nothing, I would think that the younger teen girls would like Lee, and then as they got older they’d start liking Casey, then they would start dating real guys and stop watching the show.
Kris Allen currently has 2 songs on the Hot AC charts and 1 song on the AC charts.
You were watching that show close. I too was very disappointed when Lilly and Katelyn went the same day. Those 2, with Siobhan and Crystal. They were all legit in some way. They were all in indie bands, they didn’t come from a musicial theatre background. They were all credible. You can’t say that AI didn’t try. There were some good females cut too early. Women vote for men on AI.
The younger ones liked the kid with Justin Bieber hair. I forget his name. But, you’re right, the older ones (and their moms) loved Casey.
I know this is a silly word.....but to me Lee seemed ‘real’
With Chrystal I think we got someone with street smarts who wasn’t above manipulating the guys. She said she had a crush on Casey, then she just loved Lee, and then she was kissing up to Simon. All huggy with the guy she sang with last night.....was it Joe Cocker?
She made that comment last week about her being healthy thanks to the show. Trading on her diabetes.
There was Lee who had gotten pneumonia during the competition. I may have missed it but I don’t think he ever made excuses for himself.
Just went out there and tried hard.
He was so overwhelmed by the visit back home. How will he react to all the pressures.......hard to tell. He’ll never have the same life. Hopefully, Idol will be there protecting their talent.
There were 2 young males, Tim and Aaron. I’m not sure exactly what Justin Bieber hair is. I have a very slight understanding of what Justin Bieber is, and I concluded that I did not want any more understanding of anything more related to Justin Bieber.
Speaking of Simon Cowell and his last season, People know this because he’s the high profile judge.
What people don’t know is -— Rickey Minor — who has been the bandleader for 6 seasons — is leaving A.I. to head up Jay Leno’s band on “The Tonight Show.”
I wonder why they didn’t even give him a decent sound out or a thank you for a send-off...
Following in Sandra Bullock’s footsteps when the OSCAR winner found out her husband was cheating on her on the most triumphant night of her life, Crystal was interviewed this morning in Ryan Seacrest’s drive time radio program and revealed that her boyfriend ( who we saw on the show ) has parted ways with her just after she made the top 2.
“Big Tony…he went home. He wasn’t cool with the lifestyle,” explained Bowersox. “I didn’t break up with him…it was a mutual thing.”
Go figure...

I think the Bieber-haired one was Tim, but I understand your sentiment too well. :)
Your analysis is pretty spot on, btw. I’m not sure the cougars/frauen saw Casey as ‘edgy’ so much as just plain confident, though. He certainly didn’t give off the same ‘vulnerable/needy’ vibe that Lee did, which gave Lee a huge advantage with the main voting blocs, IMO.
It sounds like you understand it pretty well.
You’re right, I hadn’t heard that. A bandleader is not an insignificant loss, you’d figure they would acknowledge his work.

She sounded very good to us last night, and really complemented the Gibbs brothers.
Hope she finds success. She’s going to need a really good agent and by now winning she is out from under the Idol umbrella. Perhaps Kara or Ellen (yikes) will give her a contract.

Seems Ellen just couldn’t keep herself from sexual comments towards the contestants. Very inappropriate. But then Kara’s infatuation with Casey was revolting too.
