Linkletter was a conservative and the Wall Street Journal had this quote from him. About Barack Obama, he says: "He's intelligent, a born performer and ambitious, like I was, but that spending bill [the stimulus] is the most terrible mistake in our history. I never thought I would see so much debt."

I was on his show back in the 60's. Got to eat at the Brown Derby and won an electric monkey. I was in the first grade. Didn't get to talk to him except on the show from what I remember, but the nuns were all exited.

Wow, that was forever ago.

In one of them, he asked this little guy what he thought the world would be like in 50 years. The youngster thought and thought and thought. Finally, after a very long pause, he answered, “Round.”

The one question that I remember, he asked a little boy what makes his Mom and Dad the happiest? He thought for a moment and said: "When they take a shower".

Art was good family entertainment, not like the trash on TV these days.

Can you imagine what kids would have to say to Art these days?

Only a Hobo, but one more is gone.

R.I.P. Art.

Nice story, but there’s nothing in his bio to indicate any aspect of this.

Art Linkletter was a Freeper. I had the opportunity to swap some private emails with him. He was a very decent man and a great influence on young children in my childhood. He was one of a kind.

I remember watching People are Funny and "Kids Say the Darndest Things" with my mama. The other kids were all at school, and Mama would sometimes stop her housework for these--and for Queen for a Day.

He was an American treasure. He was such a wonderful man....and self-made, too. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Mr. Linkletter.

Didn’t know he was a Freeper. Do you remember his Freeper name?

You know what? I got it wrong. It wasn’t Art Linkletter, it was a contemporary of his, but I can’t think of his name. He had reddish brown hair and lots of freckles. I’ll have to do some research. Hard to look up someone whose name you don’t know!

The story goes with Arthur Godfrey. You can read it here:

. He had reddish brown hair and lots of freckles

That sounds like either Howdy Doody or Arthur Godfrey!!
