Couldn’t they just climb it with halal vegetable shortening?

From the article:
This year, the event drew more attention after Vice Adm. Jeffrey Fowler, the academy's superintendent, cited "unnecessary injury risk" as a reason the school could end the yearly ritual.
From your comment:
My guess is that they dont want to offend any Mooslimbs with the lard (pig fat).

Anything to destroy tradition.
Destroy tradition, destroy the Navy.

“Anything to destroy tradition.”
Yes....and very sad (and not nearly as much fun).

Unnecessary injury risk——probably means hurt feelings.
This is the Navy for pete’s sake not Sally’s Dance Academny
To: Venturer
And if you destroy the Navy, and you’re one step closer to destroying AMerica.
To: SumProVita
Even the plebes where chanting. “We want the lard.” Kind of sad for the middies who may be the only class in years that will be denied this rite of passage.

I understand that. But imho this is all politically correct gobbedly gook to cover up the real reason.
You dont really think that these plebes are worried about getting scraped, do you?
To: vis a vis
My guess is that they dont want to offend any Mooslimbs with the lard (pig fat). So what was their excuse for not greasing it in 1969?
To: 1rudeboy
What he really said was STOP HAVING FUN!!!!

Unfortunately for the plebes, there will be an asterisk next to the time taken to place the officers cap on the top.
According to the video it usually take 2 hours or more to get it up there. They got it up in 2 1/2 minutes.
