The death of Sex and the City
Guardian ^ | May 24, 2010 | Hadley Freeman

I'm not asking for much. I just don't want to be sick in my mouth. I don't want to leave the cinema feeling like I've paid £7.50 to be mocked, patronised and kicked in the face. I don't want to be filled with despair at Hollywood's increasing inability to conceive of women in comedic films as anything other than self-obsessed babies with breasts. And I don't, most of all, want to spend two hours watching dreams and memories from my youth being trampled into humiliating self-parody. Is that too much to ask?

They don’t call it the AC/DC for nothing! (Atlanta Center for Disease Control)
They’ve spent half of their AIDS funding promoting the gay lifestyle.

But what I have seen convinces me that this is a fantasy about 4 promiscuous gay men
DING DING DING! We have a winner. The story this show is based on actually DID revolve around 4 promiscuous gay men. The producers and writers of the show convered it to 4 promiscuous straight women in order to make it more palatable to the masses.

But guess what? either way, they are still slutty whores,. and America knows it. The movie is gonna bomb.

Poor mind-reading on your part.
I’m about 10 hours from my source, so I’ll catch up later.

If the number were 175,000 the MSM would have been proclaiming an epidemic and you’d have more reliable sources than the clowns at ACDC.
And the ACDC would have substantiating documentation rather than some bias summary statement, passing as “science”.

Former model Lauren Hutton was the guest on the Today show for some reason, and Kathie Lee Gifford asked her about Sex and the City. She had plenty to say about it, even though she’s never seen it.

Said Hutton: “It’s written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That’s what I think. Let’s face it most men are sluts. That’s what testosterone is supposed to do. As a hunter, if you stayed alive after 30, nature wanted your genes out there. Women were just trying to get the best sperm to make a masterpiece...You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this.”

Set in New York City, the show focused on four self absorbed and vacuous American women who act like homosexual men, three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties. The quirky series had multiple continuing story lines and tackled socially relevant issues such as sexually transmitted diseases, safe sex, and promiscuity. It specifically examined the lives of big-city professional women in the late 1990s/early 2000s and how changing roles and expectations for women affected the characters.

I thought you guys have been bitching because the MSM was proclaiming an epidemic. The CDC gets its numbers from reports that healthcare providers are required to submit. It is an imperfect source. But it is the best source. You guys are basically taking the position that because lots of gays and IV drug users get AIDS, heterosexuals don’t get it. That’s incorrect and it sends a dangerous message to promiscuous hetersexuals.

New ‘Sex And The City 2’ Trailer Looks Pretty Damn Gay

Well, Stanford Blatch is getting married. And the girls are dressed like trannies. And there’s sex and rich people doing stuff and puns and Abu Dhabi and John Corbett and babies and “Empire State of Mind” and Sarah Jessica Parker paying homage to Annie Hall the best way she knows how (in a lady’s tuxedo).

I don't even think she's very attractive.

You're nuts or you're homosexual and I doubt the latter.

Even Marge Simpson has recognised the secret to Sex and the City. “That’s the show about four women acting like gay guys,” she said in a recent episode of The Simpsons. She’s always been a thinker, that Marge.

For Sex and the City, it seemed the formula was to write gay male and cast straight female. Its (gay) creator, Darren Star (pictured), devised one of the gayest hit series featuring straight characters in television history. The lives of the glamorous central characters - and apologies here to gay readers who dislike the stereotyping as much as anyone - revolve around sex, shopping, gossip and bawdy humour. As City Journal has noted, the show is a Yellow Pages of Manhattan’s status fashion objects, including Prada skirts, DKNY jeans and shoes by Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo. “The heroines lust after these pricey and au courant accoutrements of success ... They size up men with a similarly calculating eye for surfaces.”

While Sex in the City has thrived on sharp, witty writing and its clever dealings with the struggle for love, it’s part of a subtle shift on US television. As The New York Times noted two years ago, openly gay writers and producers have been transforming TV comedy since Ellen came out in the late 1990s. The result has been hit sitcoms such as Will & Grace and “lots of nudging and winking” in shows focusing on heterosexual characters.

Even in less accepting times, many saw old shows such as The Odd Couple, Cagney and Lacey and The Golden Girls as having a gay sensibility, even though the central characters were heterosexual.

And what about Frasier? One gay spokesman, as quoted in The New York Times, saw it as a show about “two stereotypical gay men, except they sleep with women”.

Glad you qualified the latter cause I’m about as Hetro as can be. I don’t think any of the skanks in “Sex and the City” are remotely attractive.

I will admit, I have watched a good bit of the TV series in reruns at some point or another, and while I never thought it lived up to the hype about it, there was and is certainly far worse on TV. However, it was obvious to me within a few episodes that this show was clearly written as 4 gay men, whos roles were played by women.

News flash, if your goal is to attract and keep a man, you don’t go running to your gay male friends for relationship advice.. what are they going to be able to offer you in terms of being able to attract and retain a straight man as a woman????? NOTHING.. Yet, the two characters in the show that seem most wanting of a life long companion, both had close gay friends that they would perpetually consult for advice. Um... yea, that’s useful... NOT.

The behavior of the women and the viewpoints they generally espoused always sounded far more like what I hear when I am around groups of gay men who are together, than a bunch of straight, professional confident women.

The show was what it was, I must say I loved the episode of “My Boys” (A truly great show BTW if you have never seen it) where they mocked SITC mercilessly. For the record that show is about a tomboyish 20something gal who lives in Chicago, and her 3 close male friends, her brother and 1 female friend. She’s the main character and of course her love life is part of the show... but it comes across to me far more refreshing and honest than anything SITC ever put up.

And they would, but IRS Commissioner is aiming a bit low. I'm hoping to become Queen by popular acclaim. First thing to go will be a whole lotta people's driver's licenses.

You are correct. It is truly beyond belief that SJP ever even got a second job, much less a movie career worth millions.

The only possible explanation is that some time in the early 80s, gays took over movie studios, casting agencies and industry criticism and since gay men have no idea what straight men or women find sexy, we get sexless "movie stars" like SJP, Jodie Foster, Julia Roberts, Rene Zellweger and Nicole Kidman. And most male stars are child/men like Keanu Reeves, Leonardo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt.

You thought wrong!
We complained decades ago when the MSM projected an epidemic. They never actually reported one, because none occured as result of hetro sex.
Your desire for data to deter promiscuity doesn’t make your citations valid.
Kinda like the climate crap. Industry and pollution persist, so let’s make up some data to scare the crap outta them......
The ends DO NOT justify the means, no matter my agreement with the goal.

That’s an excellent goal. I’m sure Pat will let you be Queen when he’s Dictator of the Solar System ... but you’ll have to study Greek.
