EIGHTIES pop legend Adam Ant has been committed to psychiatric care after ranting at Christians during a Church Hall event.
The troubled star, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was hospitalised on Tuesday night in London.
An unspecified incident led to the 55-year-old singer being taken into care, according to the Adam and the Ants website.
"Adam is currently undergoing initial psychiatric assessment and more details will follow when appropriate. Ant Lib Online would like to wish Adam all the best in his recovery," it said.
A message sent by the star - whose real name is Stuart Goddard - read: "Ant fans - please send me postcards at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road.
"Please don't come down here as it may upset the staff who have been really pleasant. I am having a well earned rest at Her Majesty's Pleasure and am painting and continuing being an art student. I have a great view and am considering gigs later in the year."
Ant stunned fans at a gig in Portsmouth, southern England, last week when he invited a four-year-old boy up on stage and tried to teach him the words to The Who song My Generation.
As some fans began to leave he screamed abuse at them before asking if there were Christians there and telling them to "f*** off".
The singer has been detained under the mental health act several times since 2003. In that year he was hospitalised after being found naked in a cafe basement following a dispute with a neighbour.
The previous year, he was arrested when he threatened drinkers in a London bar with a fake gun.

You’ll be thinking of Boy George. Worryingly, he ISN’T insane.
He’s looking desparate but not serious.
I have a long time friend that is bi-polar.
Fortunately, his family is somewhat well-off, so he hasn’t had to support himself as there is no possible way he could hold down a job or even land one.
It’s an affliction that people are born with and making fun of them is on the same level as people making fun of Trig Palin.
Sadly, most of his long time friends have abandoned him.
Myself and a handful of other of his true friends do stay in touch with him and get together sometimes as well.
Also, the streets here in San Fran are full of people like this, but it was the ACLU and not Reagan that is responsible for them being out on the streets and not institutionalized.
The ACLU went to court in the late 60’s/early 70’s and sued on behalf of the mentally ill so that they could not be institutionalized against their will.
Yet the lefties here in SF still claim that Reagan threw the mentally ill out on the streets, even after all these years.
Oh, I don’t know. I might have been remembering an early MTV video of that freaky poofter with the plastered mohawk on a tinfoil merry-go-round ... what was the name? I have no idea. Flock of something or other?
Not the first time and won’t be the last. At least he was clothed this go round.
I dont know. I dont pay a lot of attention to any of them.

Yikes...another icon of my misspent youth turn out to be as crazy as an outhouse rat!
Don’t tread on an ant,
He’s done nothing to you,
There might come a time
When he’s treading on you!
Don’t tread on an ant,
You’ll end up black and blue.
Cut off his head,
Legs come looking for you.
Seriously...hope they can help the poor dude. My BIL was a drummer who knew him back in the day and does not speak kindly of him, even then.
Did he do anything else?

Never saw this coming, did you?
My former employer, you know your history.
1982. Although he charted a few other singles (yes, a very minor hit - #39 - in 1995), he is mainly regarded as a one-hit wonder for “goody two shoes.”
