Governor vetoes revamped Tenn. bill to allow guns in bars

Gov. Phil Bredesen for the second year in a row has vetoed a bill to allow Tennessee handgun permit holders to bring their weapons into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

This should be easily over-ridden by the legislature.

I live in Tennessee. I've been in several Tennessee bars over my forty five years as a legal drinker. The Gov. has probably saved a few lives with this move. We already have aremd drunks in bars. No need to increase the weaponry to increase the odds of a shootout in a Tennessee bar.

BTW, I vote Republican, usually, but Bredesen would make a darn site better leader of American than the affirmative action fraud now holding the Oval Office hostage to his commie wet dreams.

PA allows drinking while carrying, and yet there are no bloodbaths among gun owners (legal ones anyway).

Stop falling for the anti-gun nonsense. With 500,000+ CCW holders in this state, you **might** think one or two would get drunk and shoot their guns. But guess what? They never do.

If bar patrons are already armed and ill-behaved where you live then that's all the more reason for the law abiding citizens to carry in there. An ancillary benefit of CCW laws is that they provide a potential deterrent to criminals because their victim may be armed. Currently, the predator can be assured that the victim isn't.

It would have still be illegal to drink while carrying.

Consider that many states allow people to carry in bars and even drink while carrying. Never has it been a problem. This is a case of fear of the unknown, much in the way ccw opponents feared blood in the streets and shootouts over traffic accidents. It didn't materialize.
