A prize fighter is about to get murdered in the ring...literally! Paul Kendrick of Eastern Allied Casualty Insurance Company, Hartford, calls Johnny about a mutual acquaintance, the prize fighter Al Coronado. Paul says that Al seems to have lost his extraordinary reflexes. Johnny travels to Joplin, Missouri, to see Frankie box. Al has had a $50,000 insurance policy on his life by his manager, Ricky Malone. The beneficiary is Frankie Fortina, a New York City bookie. In the ring, Al is easily defeated with a soft punch by a fighter who the old Al could have easily defeated.. Johnny gets past Ricky Malone and talks to Al who appears to have a brain injury. Al shouldn't be fighting any longer, and continuing to do so will only get him murdered in the ring ... which is maybe what Malone and Fortina are counting on. Ricky cracks Johnny over the head, knocking him out. Sergeant Danny Ruskin of the Joplin police has tracked Al and Ricky's travels to Monterrey, Mexico. Johnny goes to Monterrey and meets Sergeant Garcia where he learns that the 181 pound Coronado is to fight the powerful 240 pound El Toro Negro. Johnny tracks down Al in a hotel. While Johnny is phoning to have a physician examine Al, Frankie and Ricky bust into the room. Frankie, packing heat, tells Ricky to throw Dollar out of the window, but it is Ricky who exits the room through the glass. While Dollar and Ricky are scuffling Al knocks out Frankie with a left hook, just as Sergeant Garcia arrives.

The Churches had done well with their cattle sale and George was bringing the money into Dodge to pay off the not eon their house. The only people who knew about the money were Ben Stanley, who worked for the Churches since childhood, and Hobie Price, who rode off with George the day he disappeared. It takes a case of poison ivy to help Matt solve the mystery. Chester gets the itch and leads Matt to the answer of the disappearance of George Church.

11/12/47 "The Young Man with the Cream Tarts" (Sus.)(CBS)(29:28) Episode #14 Paul Frees (Theophilus Guedall/Crown Prince Florizell), Bill Johnstone (Major Hammersmith /Colonel Geraldine), Barton Yarborough (young man), William Conrad ; Writer - Robert Louis Stevenson ; Producer/Director/Radio Adaptation - William N. Robson ; Music - Cy Feuer ; Announcer - William Conrad ; It is 19th century London. A young man with a tray is giving away cream tarts. Two men who introduce themselves as Theophilus Guedall and Major Hammersmith (but who are really Crown Prince Florizell and Colonel Geraldine), accept the young man's last two tarts and then treat the young man to dinner and wine at Michele's in Soho. They all agree that they are "ruined" men. The young man says that £40 is the initiation fee for the Suicide Club. Guedall and Hammersmith become initiated into the club. They learn from old Bartholomew Malthus, a cripple, that each day one Club member is selected to murder another member, based on dealing of cards. The member receiving the ace of clubs is to be the murderer and the ace of spades is to be the victim. The play for the night finds the young man getting the ace of clubs and Malthus getting the ace of spades. The next day's newspaper reports the death of Malthus as a result of a fall from the upper parapet at Trafalgar Square. Guedall and Hammersmith return to the Suicide Club for the next night's play. Guedall draws the ace of spades. Geraldine has slipped away and brought help that rescues Guedall. The president of the Club commits suicide with poison.

Goodman syndication ; Origination - WGN, Chicago ; Dan and Barbara Glenn are the husband and wife publishers of mystery novellas for their "strange" Mystery House Publishing House, purportedly located on Park Avenue in New York City. As a twist, the firm had a policy of "the staff acting out their proposed novels prior to publication". In this episode, the detective (an invalid female named Hope Graves) never even sees the scene of the murder, yet she solves the crime.
