A freezer conked out and a lot of deer inside is on the cusp of going bad.

My dog can't eat any more and the neighbors that will feed it to THEIR dogs have their fill.
Can meat be composted?
I never thought about what to do with bad meat, so I have no idea ... anyone?

Burial shouldn’t be a problem, unless you, or anyone else, is using groundwater nearby. There might be local, state and federal laws governing the same. You might want to contact a veterinarian or a legal expert here.

Just put it on the table next to the chicken. It’ll be peachy after a day or two.

Is there a local homeless shelter, or a church that could use the meat?

When did it go out? If you act before the meat thaws, you could put a block or two of dry ice in it till you can get a new freezer.

If its NOT bad yet.
Cook it and get the freezer fixed and store it cooked. At least it won’t go to total waste.

While you’re waiting for the coals to turn to a white ash, head to the local bulk beer establishment and stock up and then call the neighbors....

If you can’t smoke, barbeque, give it away to church kitchens that feed others then my suggestion is do like I do after each hurricane. Clean the freezer out and take it to the woods and feed the wildlife. They’ll enjoy a good meal or two.

Are there any charity kitchens in your neck of the woods? Or church kitchens? They will gladly take it. If you want to keep it for yourself, contact a local butcher of wild meat, they will probably let you keep it in their freezer.
Another possibility, if there are any raw food groups in your area (groups that feed raw to their dogs) you can post a notice and they'll come pick it up. Give them a drop dead date and time. Tell them it's free.

Let is go bad, refreeze in a new freezer and cook it on the Fourth of July for your favorite Progressives. (sarc)

It DID thaw ... still cold on the outside but supple, a little hard in the middle.
My opinion is it is dog food .. or ...
That's why I posted the thread.
Burial MAY be the option.

Dry ice. But don’t try to run the freezer after you add the dry ice—you’ll freeze the freon (or whatever they use now instead).
Put the dry ice on top.
If the freezer is repairable, move the venison to coolers under dry ice while it’s fixed.

You don't have a neighbor that will take it, or a butcher? For a portion of the meat have them store it for you. We make deals all the time with butchers and even cooks at fine restaurants. We bring in a dozen rainbow trout, have him cook us up a trout dinner at a highly discounted price, and he keeps half the fish. Meat is as good as cash.
