LOL
I just say, use caution. I generally err on the side of caution. Would rather not get sick.

I have Twinkies and Peeps Im keeping just to see how long before they go bad. I believe you're looking at "prime" up to 47 years... and still "edible" at 60...

You can keep mayo forever if you keep the lid closed.
I just wouldn’t eat it after a reasonable period of time.

Bad milk is rife with dead cells decaying. Soured milk is teeming with microbial life which gives off an odor different from that which the decaying cells expel.

“Longer in the fridge.”
Oh - longer! That’s precise! Thanks for supplying this valuable data webMD.
I’m disappointed I gave them an impression to bill to their advertisers.

"...BTW: If you keep your refrigerator at 32º, stuff, including milk and cream, will keep ten times as long as at 40º... Agreed. I have milk in the back that's several weeks old and is fine to drink, however I gotta break the ice to drink it.
And for the record, my mustard is a year old, easily, and if anything has IMPROVED in flavor. And chili sauce doesn't go bad, it merely evolves to a higher plane of existence.

I’m with you, if I even have a question about it, it goes in the trash. To save a couple of bucks isn’t worth it.

Got a friend in Bangkok who simply uses the try-it method of food testing.
He’ll eat it, and if he has an intestinal explosion, he knows it wasn’t good.
He has a PhD.

It seems to me that the plain yellow mustard keeps basically forever, but the honey mustard or other types don’t keep quite as long. Or maybe I don’t like them as much so they stay around until they do get suspicious looking.

Reminds me of a Raymond episode I saw the other day, where Frank ate something. He did have a sort of intestinal explosion. Off camera, thankfully.

I generally toss it if it separates it too much. Or I can’t remember when I bought it. Or...if it has things growing.

I regularly keep Ketchup unopened in the pantry for 6-12 months before opening it and it is just fine. then after that it can sit in the fridge for at least 6 months more. Once it ferments, it’s bad. I can easily tell the difference.
sniff, sniff... the milk in the fridge is about to go bad.... and there it goes </Bobby Hill>
