Flip is ancient, I read about it in the 70’s in children’s oceanography books.

I recall reading about the ship in the Weekly Reader. I was in fourth grade at the time so FLIP has been around since 1965.

The article says that FLIP was first launched in 1960. That makes it 5 years younger than I am.
