Wow, that’s almost exactly the path that I’ve taken with my Sporty. At one time I had a real hopped up build with domed pistons, Screamin’ Eagle cams, Cobra open pipes and the SE ignition. It was way more than I needed or even wanted.

Currently it’s built around 1250cc dished pistons, Nalin N2 cams, Screamin’ Eagle mufflers and I kept the ignition but never get close to increased redline. Added an oil cooler just to keep it as cool as possible and changed the gearing on the final drive from 25t to 27t to bring down the RPM’s on the highway.

SE ignition actually hurts performance. Not many harley riders know this...and the dealership clowns don’t know jack.

SE ignition was designed to prevent detonation and overheating in a bored out motor with high compression pistons and high flow air cleaner. To do this they RETARD the spark timing. That hurts performance, but saves your engine.

The proper way to go would be dual plug heads, an oil cooler, and advanced spark timing...then run real good quality gas and octane booster if necessary.

The bozos at the dealership sold me their stupid SE ignition module and a carb kit to richen the fuel mixture and a set of high rpm horsepower cams. Then I couldn’t figure out why I kept getting fouled plugs and sooty mufflers. I almost never run the motor above 4500RPMs so the cams they sold me are absolutely worthless, as was the ignition module. The solution was to lean out the carb with a new needle, dump the worthless SE ignition, and add an oil cooler.

and another thing, I would never go with their stroker flywheels. Just bore it out. I think you can go all the way up to 4-3/16ths bore(110cid) if you ream your cases...that’s twincam cases i’m talking about. I don’t know about sportsters. they probably max out around 1300cc with stock cases and stock stroke. Don’t ever buy their SE heads either, or pay someone to enlarge the valves in your heads...it don’t do jack for torque.

For people like us that really only care about low rpm torque, there’s no replacement for displacement...and racing cams and racing pipes actually decrease low rpm torque, not increase.

one word of caution though...a high torque motor and a bike geared for low RPMs on the highway is a recipe for a fried clutch. You might find you will need to upgrade your clutch.
