THERE IS NO UPGRADE!!! It is a “shread and replace” process. You will need to do an install from the ground up - delete the partition, reformat and then install. All programs and data on the notebook will be lost. Make sure she saves all data and has all install disks at hand. And, of course, make sure she knows how to do all of these things.

Why not just a nice night out with your mom, a nice resturant and maybe just an evening of talking? She will value the time with you much more than Windows7.

The email address input during ordering is where the download link is sent.

I've installed Windows 7 from XP or Vista(part of my job)...my routine... backup all docs, personal files, favorites, PSTs (outlook mail files) and choose Custom (clean) install.

As long as you have DSL, Cable, or greater download speeds, you can download the ISO and burn the image to DVD later. I've downloaded Win 7 three times for my college kids and for myself, without a problem.

But you want this to go to your mom...upgrade install would be easier (but Custom install would be better).

Does she have a DVD ROM or DVD Burner? Is she computer savvy? Can she follow written directions on how to install Windows 7? Is her computer ready for Windows 7? To be sure, ask her to download, install, run the Windows 7 upgrade Advisor...file is relatively small and will check her computer for hardware/software installed for compatibility with 7.

I’d call her local Best Buy and hire a Geek Squad kid to run over and do it...

YES, THERE IS!!!

Vista to 7 (32 bit to 32 bit, etc.) is an upgrade. XP or any prior version is a wipe-and-replace.

I never could get it to show subs but that was actually my only real gripe about Vista. I tend to watch a lot of anime and Japanese concerts so that was a bit of an issue but I just picked up PowerDVD 9 to work around it. Other than that one relatively minor complaint, it’s worked very well for me.

Well, I have Windows 7 installed...finally. The biggest problem...actually, the only problem was my Belkin N-Wireless adapter. I had to connect by wire to the network, but with the new Belkin driver, it seems to be fine.

Other than that, everything seems to be great...so far! :-)

What is UAC?

user action control, everytime you click on something a window pops up asking to confirm it, and if you have it in a business setting, you have to contr0l+alt+del everytime it comes up. windows 7 isnt as picky I dont think I have turned it off.
