Steven Brust has a new novel out that's about lawyers. (See a few posts above for relevance, BlackElk: Anoreth's decided to pursue the Law, if it doesn't get her first.)
In addition to the usual raucous mayhem and snarky dialogue, it includes the line, "You would understand if you've ever irrigated on a Navy canal."

Pursue the law before IT pursues you!
That was some fine rant.

"Steven Brust has a new novel out that's about lawyers. (See a few posts above for relevance, BlackElk: Anoreth's decided to pursue the Law, if it doesn't get her first.)" My response has nothing to do with lawyers, but it does have to do with novels.
As someone with a moderate interest in writing, and in science fiction, I was pleased to discover, quite belatedly, the work of a fine scriber:
John Scalzi
The first book that I read was "Old Man's War", published in 2005.
Fortuitously, I purchased the sequel "The Ghost Brigades" at the same time, um, two days ago, which I'm reading now.
This is my kind of writer.

(Lewis Caroll asked, "How is a raven like a writing desk?" My answer: "They both have plumes of ink.")
