Apart from the action in the $, the oil market seems to think it’s gonna be OK.
Great minds think alike, that was my first thought when I read the headlines, “The cone of silence!”.:)
This is the only video I’ve seen:

Not only the weight of the box but the pressure of the sea water at that depth has to be taken into consideration. I don’t know what the PSI is at about a mile deep but I would think considerable.
I think the post is addressing the the issue of the specific gravity of the oil captured in the dome possibly making the dome bouyant.
I think we’ve found a new use for the Astrodome, dump it in the Gulf!
Mine was thinkning about Yellowstone's volcanic dome rising - Couldn't figure out what dome was falling. 8<)
Spanish TV is ignoring the problem.
2.250psi.
“I think the post is addressing the the issue of the specific gravity of the oil captured in the dome possibly making the dome bouyant.”
The “dome” weighs in at 100 tonne, that a lot of ballast.
And all the crime ridden area around it that cost Astroworld all the business over the years.
And it’s going to settle 15 feet into the seabed.
“the pressure of the sea water at that depth has to be taken into consideration”
Yup, but not in the way a lot of people are thinking. This isn’t a “crush depth” problem except maybe for the robots.
Submarines crush because they have to maintain a relatively low pressure inside for the crew.
In contrast, for oil to come out of the well at that depth, the oil must be at a higher pressure than that water there. Thus, the pressure will be higher INSIDE the containment device. As a result, the higher water pressure at that depth actually might HELP. Of course, the fact they have to place it just right almost a mile down and then run a pipe/hose for a mile — which will get pushed and pulled on by the water — is a pretty messy problem fraught with risk all by itself.
I kept going by thinking it was an old Mel Gibson Movie...
Given the stated 150 gal/min flow and the pressure 5,000' down that oil should shoot on up.
There’s no place like dome?
Are we really plunging into on a Live thread?
And here's the man in charge, busy controlling the dome's descent.
That’s what the “ side flaps are for, to stop it from sinking any lower.
Keep your fingers crossed...
First Good News From Gulf Spill
I just got a text message from a relative doing support work on a ship acting in support of a ship controlling one of the remote subs attempting to position the oil collection “dome” over the major leak in the “riser”
Exact quote “the eagle has landed”. A bit cryptic I’ll grant you but I believe the oil collection dome is now in place.
More to follow.

that should make a nice slick on the surface right quick if'n that pipe's not connected good.
