Red Skelton was one of the guilty pleasures of my childhood.
I watched him religiously in the late 60's and early 70's.
One of my favorite routines was his portrayal of two mentally retarded seagulls, Gertrude and Heathcliffe.
Probably couldn't get away with that today.
My dad and I used to just roar with laughter at that funny man!!
A classic and spot on. If a teacher tried that now, well...
What a coincidence! Tonight I remembered my mother saying that I was born two months early because she laughed too hard at one of Red’s shows. A search online turned up that his show had been on the day before my birth - and the show is available online. Am curious to see what was so funny!
I saw Red Skelton perform on stage in Reno back in the late ‘70s. Funny, funny, man. They don’t make them like that anymore.
