That picture kinda looks like it might be dark outside. Maybe even night.

I love the concept. I have even seen do-it-yourself kits.

Survival/Preparedness ping! Two pings in one day!

Can any of you provide information about solar generators?

Visit and bookmark this site: http://www.survivalsolarsystems.com/

Ex-military guy makes and sells solar powered refrigerators and is developing a generator. Very nice guy.

If you’re handy and can reverse engineer something from pics alone, I recommend checking out this site: http://www.stginternational.org/

Group of kids at MIT who have developed a parabolic collector that heats freon to drive a generator based on car parts. It produces electricity and hot water. IIRC, it can also be set up for air conditioning.

It looks to be a very practical, if not low-tech, solution, but they won’t release plans or much technical info. Perhaps not as efficient as other methods, but if you can weld and have access to scrap metal and a junkyard, you can likely build it for far less cost than alternatives. You can make up for a lot of lack of efficiency with greater numbers and self-maintenance.

IMHO, if you peruse the site and the various pics, you can likely figure out enough to come up with your own system using the same concepts.

Under ideal conditions, you can probably generate a dollars worth of electric power per day with a $2,000 solar power generation system. Depending on where you live, conditions are seldom ideal.

IMO, a better alternative is a gasoline powered generator with some gasoline stored up treated with Stabil.
