Get a grip.

First, suburbanites actually can grow a lot of their own food. It’s called a “garden” and we have seen a recent trend back to backyard gardening.

Second, a lot of suburbanites originally came from small towns and rural areas. After a couple of days with no news, no power, and no help arriving, many will start heading towards the rural areas knowing that they can get food and shelter there.

Small farm towns, villages and hamlets can and will take people in who will help them with the fields and can provide skills that the community needs.

Will millions die? Absolutely. 50%? That’s a very real likelyhood. 90%? Not a chance.

They're going to grow enough to live on in their garden?!?! You figure out how much food a person needs (bare minimum) in a year. If they don't grow that, they starve - unless someone else has grown extra, and they have something the someone else wants. The someone else has to live real close, too; remember, there's no longer any fuel, so there's no transportation.

Obviously, you and I disagree. You think I'm too apocalyptic, I think you're too Polyannish. We aren't going to settle this on Free Republic. I hope we never find out in real life. Even under your scenario, it's going to be worse than anyone in the U.S. has ever seen.
