Stupid. Labs are fine the way they are.

Not if you are allergic to their fur.

I can understand how the creator of the labradoodle can feel some dissappointment in his breeding, but they are very nice dogs.

Our dog sheds like mad and wants to be around us 24/7, but border collies are priceless!

... if the market wants whatchadoodles, how about breeding whatchadoodles

That's what I would do, if I wanted to make money as a dog-breeder.

I have a Yorkie Poodle and have no regrets. I originally went to pick up our Mini Poodle for our daughter and the little guy came right up to me. Turns out the breeder didn’t know this was a designer dog and sold it to me for the money she had in it regarding shots and veterinary care. Poobear (his name) is a real gem. Smart and the dog will hunt!

What they charge for designer dogs is ridiculous. I’ll probably never have another.

The labradoodle is now recognized as the first of the so-called "designer dogs", selling for more than $1000 a puppy. In essence, it is a mutt, or mongrel, yet it has raced ahead of pedigrees in terms of price and desirability.

Aren't all purebreds crosses from earlier breeds? Not sure what the problem is. As far as I can tell, purebred dogs are just mutts that a bunch of people agree on.

If the price remains above what most people are willing to pay, it will drop, and then some other fad will take over and drive up the price of that breed.

We have a retired greyhound. I wish more people would realize what wonderful dogs they are and give them homes.

Some of the people who buy designer breeds are self absorbed and they end up at the pound. Happens to pure breds too.

The designer breed types usually just want something no one else has and they grow bored quickly. There are plenty of great dogs at the pound who need a home. Idiots mixing and matching as back yard geneticists are vermin.

Oh let’s mix this and that.

So what if the other breeds disappear? They only exist as breeds because of the self appointed guardians of breed purity in the AKC and UKKC (?)

Breeds came about because someone needed certain characteristics to assist them in their work, or thought a certain mix might lead to a better companion.

That's all that was done with the XXXX-doodle dogs. The only reason they are not considered a "breed" is because the Guardians of all that is Right have not ordained it so.

WGAF what they think??

Idiots mixing and matching as back yard geneticists are vermin.

Why would someone breeding Dog X to Dog Y be any worse than anyone else breeding dogs (as opposed to having them spayed or neutered)? Dogs is dogs, and it doesn't hurt a poodle to have a lab's puppies, or vice versa.

“Hybrid vigor” is a myth, long disproved.

Don’t mean to offend but sorry, but it’s science.

I originally wanted a retired greyhound. The family talked us into getting a poodle since all of them are allergic to dander. I still want one. I’d like two. They seem to love company when you’re not around. Great animals. Enjoy yours.

has pushed out other breeds in terms of desirability.

What a maroon. Apparently, innovation and development of more popular alternatives should be discouraged. Let's make sure that we never develop a more popular vehicle, a more desirable computer, or a more enticing food. Oh, the horrors!

I agree with you about plenty of good dogs at the pound, but what is so wrong with cross-breeding?

We’re almost always around with ours, but someday when we have fewer people in the house, I wouldn’t mind having two greyhounds.

I would prefer to have hyper-vigor over a purebred any day. They are much nicer and live longer.

You may get your wish.

In many states left-wing, nanny state wackos are working very hard to put breeders of purebred dogs out of business, usually in concert with Humane Society of the United States. HSUS is a wolf in sheep's clothing that is only out for itself. It's actually the ACORN of the animal world.
