Stupid. Labs are fine the way they are.

I would prefer to have hyper-vigor over a purebred any day. They are much nicer and live longer.

Well, at least it helps the parent’s give birth to dogs which should, in theory, have fewer inherent defects.
I understand they are smart dogs, but I want my dogs to have straight hair.

We’ve got a couple of Goldendoodles (I think that’s what they’re called) in my neighborhood -— half Golden Retriever/half Standard Poodle. Absolutely gorgeous.

Crud, “parents,” not “parent’s.”

I have an Aussiedor - Australian Shepherd/Lab mix. Sweetest dog ever to walk on this earth. You can take food out of her mouth and she doesn’t even resist. She’s just so confident that more food or something else good will come her way.
To: Frantzie
Yes, they are.
We had a golden, and she was a great dog. She was the best outfielder ever. I never had to teach her to fetch, she just did it. A little tough for her to drop the ball, but it only took an hour or so and she got the hang of it. I cried the day we had to put her down, it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
But now we have another great dog, and Australian Shepard, he’s no fielder but he’s great for chasing the deer away.
To: MIlle
The only mix I like is a Lab and Golden but a regular Lab is even better.

I really don’t see what’s different about breeding two purebreds together on purpose and cross-breeding two purebreds on purpose. If people like the result, how is any harm done?

Agreed. Some folks would bee-yotch if ya hung ‘em with a new rope.

Never cared for labs, too obsessed with fetching. Terrier guy myself, independent, tough and a good companion

It appears that breeders of pure-bred dogs are losing money because the cross-breeds are a better product. Oh, how sad ...

Yes, that seems to be the issue. But if the market wants whatchadoodles, how about breeding whatchadoodles?
