What made this one so strange, though, was the mother’s claim that the dog allegedly anally raped her two-year-old son.

Hummm ...sounds like a cover story?

Ah yes, the crushing weight of doom.
Does Diesel snore the gurggle?
Daz gurggled when he snored.
He also slobbered and drooled in his sleep.

Exactly. They have always been a fighting breed. Sure they had other qualities but those came along. One quality is to be submissive to humans so that when the human would break up the fight, the dog wouldn’t turn on him. A traditionally bred pit bull will fawn at a human’s feet.

That secondary characteristic has been bred out of them the last few decades as people now use them as guard dogs. These aren’t our grand parents’ pit bulls. They are a new breed designed to see humans as just another kind of fighting animal.

What’s even better is the haters have no idea that “pit bull” isn’t a specific breed but a generic one. There are several breeds that fall into that category. Read their posts to see the cluelessness.

Spudz Mackenzie was listed as a “pit bull” once upon a time.
Spudz looks very different fro mother “pit Bulls”.

Most folks here know I have an American Bulldog...Performance-Standard variety...not so much Doc Johnson lippy/bulky

anyhow...he’s 8 months and weighs 72 lbs

he is very very active....loves me to death and plays well but rough with the kids and loves everyone like a Lab

my question is his guarding instincts are appearing to be quite slow in developing...

I’ve owned Dobies, Rotts , Alsatians and Big Schnauzers in my half century (plus water hunting dogs) and all those were pretty wary by now

any thoughts....I know ABDs mature slowly

he submits to me and rolls up very easy....he still doesn’t tinkle from side leg....which is usually when testosterone really kicks in....my last Dobie....never rolled over...ever..10 years.

They keep changing the names of the breeds too. The average person doesn’t know what a pit bull is anymore than they can tell the difference between guns. If it LOOKS like a “pit”, it is one. Gotta be! Not that reporters can tell the diff either!

They had a gang bust in Newburgh, and there was a bullpupped rifle which the idiot reporter said was a “bushmaster”.
*ugh*

to be precise:

The American Pitbull Terrier is recognized by UKC

The American Stafforshire Terrier is recognized by the AKC

the naming changed over the year within the AKC but they are both essentially the same breed just recognized by different names each...some are dual registered but not all...and some think they are slightly different...the different registering is about a 50-70 year old issue

many mutts that have pitbull-staffie blood are not registered but do have that look

Which is more likely; a “perfectly mild mannered” dog suddenly going bonkers and attacking someone, or a clueless, lazy owner that ignored warning signs for years claiming that his dog was “perfectly mild mannered” to avoid being blamed for owning a vicious animal?

8 months seems pretty young to me...What behaviors are you looking for that he’s not exhibiting? Property or people guarding?

Thank you!! We have had to put down three dogs in our extended family. All were raised in a loving home(s) with the same techniques. One was offspring of two of our dogs. There are bad apples in dogs just like people. If the owner is a fault it is for not recognizing a bad dog and correcting the situation.
