the stories were that Michelle hit the roof about Vera as a campaign worker, and to keep Michelle on board with the marriage (and image of the perfect black first family), Vera was sent to live on Martinique (?) and well set up there
Plus Michelle was given some official role and probably an unlimited budget for staff and clothes
