MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) -- The actress who played Thelma Lou on "The Andy Griffith Show" was robbed in the town that inspired the show's idyllic Mayberry setting, after moving to the area to avoid big city crime.
Betty Lou Lynn had her wallet stolen at a shopping center in Mount Airy, the birthplace of Andy Griffith.

Remember the Mount Pilot girl with the gravely voice-—always said “Hi, doll...” to Andy?
Susan Estrich sounds remarkably like her—I always get a kick outta that!
What’s this country coming to?
Crime in Mayberry!
.
"GO-OL-LY!!"
In other news:
Elizabeth Edwards store vandalized
Rocks were apparently thrown at windows of the Greenbridge Development office and The Red Window, at 400 W. Rosemary St., late Monday or early Tuesday, police said. Seven windows were broken.
Mr. Ernest T. Bass could not be reached for comment.
Howard McNear suffered a stroke in 1964, and in later episodes of the show, was sometimes supported upright by a brace hidden by the camera angle.
Been through that area a few times. Quite nice with Pilot mountain overlooking it.
I saw your note on the AG left thing - his little video stunt with Opie and the Fonz pretty much did it for me. I like the 'ol shows, but I wish those guys would just keep their piehole shut.
Ironically, a little business like Floyd's shop would be hit hard by the Obama tax machine. I wonder what Liz Edwards thinks about obamacare with her small business.
It was heard through the Mayberry grapevine(Sarah of course)that behind closed doors Helen Crump was a wild one... she liked Andy to hang upside down from the chandelier
If that is true , I have a much more favorable opinion of her . The Mayberry Dominatrix ! Cool .
Did Barney ever tap that?
Didn’t Andy and Opie make a commercial for Emperor Obama’s election? No sympathy here.
Even in Mayberry you ought to keep track of your wallet.
Funny... I didn’t either. I thought her character was too prissy for Andy and Aunt Bea and Opie. Her character always seemed to be looking down on the rest of the townfolk like she was better than them. I much preferred the actress who played the part of the pharmacist at the drug store. She was always smiling and she really liked Andy and his family. She was one of the daughters in Father Knows Best.
Helen was Andy’s squeeze and yeah, she always seemed peeved about something. Maybe she craved Barney?
Long before the Dirty Sanchez, there was the Dirty Andy....
The lady who played on “Father Knows Best” and the
“The Andy Griffith Show” was Eleanor Donahue (not
positive about spelling).
I liked the manicurist Floyd hired to work at his barber shop. Man, she was smoking hot! She went on to play Jeanie.
Andy is a BIG DEMOCRAT!! Too bad for Thelma, she’s on her own.
